Music and the creative arts are integral to the vibrancy of Oakland Center for Spiritual Living, opening hearts, stirring souls and transforming lives. Our Community is blessed by many talented musicians/artists who share their creative consciousness in a rich variety of offerings:

The JOY! Choir provides an opportunity for people to participate in the delight of singing and further their own musical growth. JOY! Choir is a loving community made up of singers who rehearse regularly. Its mission is to embody and express the love, joy and oneness of God in rhythm, sound and song. Membership is open to all who meet minimum requirements.

The music of JOY! is as varied as the people who make up our community, ranging in style from jazz to reggae, contemporary classical to R & B to gospel, and more. It includes many original songs composed by Larry Steelman and others in our community. JOY! performs during Center services on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, participates in other special events at the Center and in the local community, and presents an annual concert which is not to be missed. Choir members also participate in the following:

The JOY! Ensemble, which showcases the talents of 8-12 singers.

One Voice, a quartet led by Helen Gray.

The Full Heart Band accompanies the JOY! Choir to bring a dynamic, live musical experience to our sanctuary. This quartet of musicians rocks the house and is an essential part of the OCSL sound.

Inner Light, featuring Jack Quigley and Aletha Zsido, sings regularly for Wednesday night services.

Guest artists from all over the country are featured on the first, third and fifth Sundays of each month. Our guests include: Brenda Lee Eager, Jami Lula, Charles Holt, Peter Kater, Nadine Risha, Nicolas Bearde, Branice McKenzie, Gino Walker and others.
